2023: Year 3
Hunger vs Hunger
2023 Donation Total: $66,879
July 8th, 2023 Update:
On July 8th, I burned 12,191 Calories to raise awareness for food insecurity in Whatcom County.
My day looked like this:
✔️ 2:30 am - 114 mile road bike ride
✔️ 9:30 am - 1 hour HIIT workout
✔️ 10:45 am - 15.47 mile run
✔️ 2:00 pm - 2.99 mile swim
✔️ 4:30 pm - 6.34 mile mtn bike ride
✔️ 5:41 pm - 11.97 mile run
Total calories burned: 12,191
Total moving time: 15 hours
Total steps: 84,435
Burning over 12,000 calories in one day is a privilege. Many, many people in our community and across this country currently face food shortages - constantly wondering where their next meal will come from. The Bellingham Food Bank continues to supply food for thousands of families every week (1 in 5 Whatcom County Residents rely on a food bank every week!) Take this opportunity to support our local food bank, or whichever
food bank supports wherever you call ‘home’. Donations made through my fundraiser will be matched by the Jerry H Walton Foundation. Please spread the message or share this page. People need our help.
Thanks ❤️

What is Hunger vs Hunger?
Hunger vs Hunger began as a small fundraiser aimed at helping get people back on their feet during the worst of Covid in 2021. In just three years, we have raised over $140,000. We have grown from two sponsors, to fifteen. And yet, the need at the Bellingham Food Bank has more than tripled. On July 8th, 2023, I set out, once again, to burn as many calories in one day as I could to continue to raise awareness for the food insecurity that exists in Whatcom County.
I:
-
Road biked 114 miles
-
Ran 26.2 miles
-
Swam 2.99 miles
-
Mountain biked 6.5 miles
-
Did a 1 hour HIIT workout at JD Elite Fitness (9:30 am - 10:30 am open to the public!)
Every dollar raised from this fundraiser went directly to the Bellingham Food Bank. Currently, 16% of Whatcom County relies on a food bank every week. The Bellingham Food Bank is one of the highest rated non-profits, with a program expense ratio of 94%. I've been volunteering there since 2021 and can't express how important they are to so many people in our community. Any donation goes a long ways and I thank you all in advance.

Growing from Last Year's Success
Every year I do this, I continue to try and grow. My mind bounces from big idea to bigger idea and despite being just one person, I try and bring as many of those ideas to fruition as I can. This year, with the help of a couple incredible people, I was able to get 15 different companies to partner up for Hunger vs Hunger. These companies have helped to exponentially grow the number of people who hear about the fundraiser, as well as providing generous donations of their own. Because of this year's boost in sponsors, I am proud to say we were able to blow by our fundraising goal of $50,000!
